When to replace a pet tag and update contact details

A pet tag helps only when its information is current and readable. Here is when it should be checked or replaced.

An engraved tag can last a long time, but contact details and the attachment system still need regular checks. Outdated information or a weakened ring reduces the tag's practical value.

Your phone number has changed

If the number engraved on the back is no longer active, replace the tag. Phone engraving is optional, but when included it must be correct. Review every digit carefully before confirming a new order.

The tag no longer fits the animal's size

Puppies grow quickly, so collars and accessories need adjustment. A tag that worked at three months may later become disproportionate. For cats and small dogs, avoid designs that can easily reach the mouth.

The engraving is difficult to read

Dust and surface marks can be cleaned with a soft cloth. If scratches or prolonged friction still make the text hard to read, choose a new tag. Readability matters more than keeping a heavily worn accessory.
